Description

This is part of a cover/splash page for a story I've been working on some while my computer was dead. Inspired by the Fatal Frame series and the Nancy Drew game Shadow at the Water's Edge, I started thinking, "What about doing a Cluefinders story set in Japan?" The team gets brought to Japan to help solve the mystery of a "haunted" Ryokan or traditonal inn. Ghost hunting, cultural studies, and danger await our heroes!

...That and it's kind of a good excuse for drawing Joni in a yukata. :) And Santiago... (Joni's yukata is based on Miku's unlockable outfit from Fatal Frame 3, while Santiago's is based on one of Kei's unlockable outfits from the same game. For added fun, Joni's holding a camera in this picture, though it's not very visible behind her sleeve.)

As you can probably tell, this is still unfinished, since I just cannot figure out what to do with the background, and I haven't finished inking Joni and Stantiago. But I've got a slew of books on Japan out from the library, my internet's back and I'm ready to write! (just as soon as I can figure out my villain and motive.... :( )

I always thought that this is a good pic. The Learning Company would definitely have fun with this if they had continued the series to our modern times.

Did you come up with mini game ideas? If not, I'd like to suggest a few and what skill (s) they would represent: one involving kimono/yukata/kosode making either of your own creation or with template (with stories from Japanese history and mythology told through the fabric. And Scissors being the "if you think the story is right and/or when you're done click on this item" item. Creativity and writing and creating our heroes' outfits), helping pound mochi to make the mochi rice cakes (pound the right mochi for the word to finish the haiku or other form of poetry. Writing and English), playing the shamisen and taiko for noh or helping an idol group (rhythm based with music notation skills), creating wagashi, riceballs, and ramen (fractions and addition), Creating bento/ekiben (Subtraction and Decimals), Woodblock painting puzzles(Positive and Negative Space play to create shapes), smashing watermelons (Physics-based activity. Measurements of force, placement and angle).

As for the villain, AnaxErik4ever and I think they'd try to bring a loved one back from the dead and had brought those ghosts to the inn by mistake. It'd bring back some supernatural vibes that they had previously in the 4th grade adventures in Egypt
